38 quarts of food all neatly stored under my bed.
(Don't laugh... space is a premium here.)
Pork, beef, pinto beans, black beans and potatoes.

Next week.
Chicken, ground beef and apple sauce.

Oh, and I made bread that was actually edible.

My prayer requests for this week...
My cousin Amber and her husband Brett are in Nevada to adopt their son Jence's baby brother. Good luck Amber and Brett! Many prayers and thoughts are headed your way.

My Teeny Grandma is in the hospital again. At 95, her tiny body just isn't doing well. Winters are hard. Hopefully, we can make it for a visit very soon.

My Grandpa Terry. The transition of not having my Grandmother at home is so hard for him. Add to that, he still isn't back to 100% health wise.

My brother in law Casey and sister Tawny. Casey's grandfather suffered a stroke yesterday. We love you both very much and are here for whatever you need!!

Much love to my family!

We have a lot going on right now. But, I love so much that we are all close. We bear each other's burdens as much as we can.

It truly makes my load seem lighter.

The Ant and the Grasshopper

In a field one summer’s day a Grasshopper was hopping about, chirping and singing to its heart’s content. An Ant passed by, bearing along with great toil an ear of corn he was taking to the nest.

“Why not come and chat with me,” said the Grasshopper, “instead of toiling and moiling in that way?”

“I am helping to lay up food for the winter,” said the Ant, “and recommend you to do the same.”

“Why bother about winter?” said the Grasshopper; “we have got plenty of food at present.” But the Ant went on its way and continued its toil. When the winter came the Grasshopper had no food, and found itself dying of hunger, while it saw the ants distributing every day corn and grain from the stores they had collected in the summer. Then the Grasshopper knew:

“It is best to prepare for the days of necessity.”

Food Storage.

I have to admit, it's been on my mind a lot lately. So much so, that it's keeping me up at night.

How long could my little family survive on the meager stores we have at hand?

A month, maybe?

Maybe.

So today, I've bottled pork and beef.

Sounds weird right?

But, it makes great soups and stews. Easy food storage food. Even without a heat source. And I found some pretty good deals on meat today.

Another confession.

I'm pretty proud of myself. This is the first time I've canned without the expert aid of my sisters and mom.

I didn't blow up the kitchen!

And my first canning experiment looks to be a success.

Tomorrow's experiment?

Beans.
