Stupid, stupid, stupid

Yesterday, in a moment of pure desperation, while attempting to style my unruly mop of hair, I broke the #1 cardinal law of being a girl...
I cut my own bangs.

Honestly, you'd think at 30 I would have learned my lesson. You'd think I would remember all the other times I thought I could just trim a little and wound up with a hack job on my forehead.

Well, I didn't remember.

After the massacre, I began stying my hair. I thought they weren't so bad, and that I might actually be able to live with the mess, when Celia comes in to the bathroom and announces, "Mommy, your bangs look really stupid."

Oh honesty.

She voiced what I feared. I am good at a lot of things.
Trimming my hair is not one of them.

My bangs look stupid. I hate them. I want to cry.

So, for the next several months until the damage grows out enough to manage, I will be styling my favorite Red Sox cap, and creative variation of the pull back with bobby pins.

Did I mention I want to cry?

So, if you see me around and about...
Please don't laugh.
Oh, and try not to stare.

Giggle, Giggle

So, apparently I don't have much of a sense of humor.

I guess I'm pretty oldy, moldy. Like on a Friday night, take me the Blockbuster and I head straight for the drama section. I love flicks like The Duchess, Elizabeth or Pride and Prejudice. Good stuff.
Not so funny.

My sweet hubby on the other hand got all giggly when he heard "poop deck" on an audio book. We were listening to The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, so they said it like a hundred times. And there he is just a giggling each and every time.
Ah, potty humor.
Do boys ever grow up?

What do I get all giggly about??
Adam Sandler.

For your viewing pleasure... The Hanukkah Song.

Cue my giggle fest.

What's with the emotions?

No, I'm not pregnant.
But, thanks for asking.

I would like to be though. The body just isn't cooperating according to plans.
Which is weird.
Getting pregnant with Celia took all of about 5 minutes being off birth control.

I know, I know. It's only been two months.
Since when have I ever been a patient person?

More than the whole non baby thing, my body is starting to worry me. I just haven't felt right the past few months.
Weird stuff.
I'll spare you the details.

So today, I'm a bit emotional. Hopefully a dinner date and chick flick with my hubby will help.
He bought me tickets to New Moon and he lets me eat all the popcorn.
What a saint!

Poor guy.
How'd he ever get stuck with me??

30!

Ok, so it's come and gone... I'm officially 30!
And I'll have to say, It's not quite as bad as I thought. Then again, I've been a little preoccupied with a few other things lately.

30 is different than I exptected. It's not at all what my expectations were. I'm definately not where I thought I'd be at 30. But, maybe that's a good thing! I'm a very different person than I was five years ago and I'm very content with where my life is right now. I've settled a lot these past few years.

30 seems a right age to be getting married. It's funny, Dan met me when I was 18 years old. He's known (and loved!) me in my teens, twenties and now in my thirties I know I will be spending eternity with him. It just seems fitting. This past weekend his great aunt said to me that we looked like we were made for eachother. I happen to agree! He is my soul mate. My best friend. He's patiently waited almost 12 years for me.

So, happy birthday me!
This year I have a lot to celebrate!!

Swine Flu...Lucky Me

Yep. I have it. I don't know how or where I was exposed. Uck!
So, if you've been around me in the last week and aren't feeling so hot- please make a trip to the doctor. Apparently, I'm highly contagious. So sorry!!!
My prayers now are that Celia doesn't get it. She felt a bit warm after her nap today. I hope I'm not being overly cautious. She's started an antibiotic though. Just in case... This is SO not fun!!

Woodstock

It's the 40th anniversary of Woodstock. Flipping through the archive photos and listening to the accounts makes me nostalgic. Which is a little strange considering my mother was about 10 in 1969 and I wasn't even a thought.

Really though, I missed my era. I would have been that girl. You know the one. Long hair, poetry reading, peace loving, free spirit.

Yep that one.

That would have been me.

But, then again thinking back to myself at 19, it's probably a really great thing that I missed the 60's.

I would have gotten lost.

Peace

Slightly Neurotic

Sometimes I genuinely think I'm just a little OCD.
My clothes in my closet have to be organized by color and sleeve length.
Dishes have to be in the cabinets just so.
I obsessively iron everything, including Celia's play clothes.
And then there's the Skittle thing.

See my point?

First I separate. Then eat in just the right order. Green, yellow, orange, purple, red.
So yeah. I'm slightly neurotic.

But, I've come to terms with it.

I struggle sometimes...

I'm engaged to the most patient, loving and supportive man. Dan loves me in ways that surprise me everyday. He is affectionate, thoughtful, kind and he makes me laugh. He honestly thinks I'm the most beautiful woman in the world. And all other girls have disappeared for him. He listens when I talk and remembers things that I'm concerned about or that I might want or want to do. He sends me little notes to remind me he misses me and is thinking about me. He is working his tail off to be able to buy our little family a house and move out here so we can be together. He sincerely loves my daughter and misses her just as much as he misses me. Maybe even more! I could go on and on. Dan is such a good man and I'm the luckiest girl in the world that he waited patiently for 10 years for me to figure out what I really wanted.
So where's the struggle? It's me!! Stupid, insecure me. I struggle to accept his love. I struggle to trust. I struggle with just allowing things to be good. I was burned so badly in the past that even a compliment is hard for me to accept. Take last night. I must have driven him nuts with my anxiety. But, he patiently talked me through three or four phone calls until I finally settled down enough to sleep.
I love Dan so much. I wish I had better words to describe how I feel. I need to just relax. Just accept that I have an incredible man, who loves me unconditionally. He's not going anywhere. He won't hurt me. He won't lie to me. And in 50 years, he's still going to want to hold my hand and spend every minute possible together. Hopefully by then I'm not so neurotic!
