I like dogs. I don't mind neighbors with dogs.
I hate pit bulls.
Always have, and given our little experience last night, I think I always will.

Sunday evening, a small group of my family members walked the two houses from my grandparents house to my aunts house for a brief visit. As we were just about to my aunt's driveway we were charged by a very angry, nursing mamma pit bull that had escaped from a neighbor's house. It was growling and nipping at all our legs. My grandparents, baby Chace and Josh were with us. So it made us all quite concerned. We moved quickly and avoided eye contact with the dog to made it inside my aunt's house and hoped the dog's owners would retrieve their beast soon.
During our visit, my cousin revealed that she had chased the same dog away from some school kids just a few days before. She expressed her fears that the dog was dangerous and the owner's extremely neglectful. And she said it wasn't the first time the dog had gotten out and chased pedestrians.
Dan and I decided to walk back to my grandparent's house with Randee and baby Chace before the rest of the group was ready to leave. We cautiously scanned the driveway for signs of the dog. We spotted the nasty beast at the neighbor's house and decided to chance it since it was pretty far away. We took a few steps into the drive way and the dog spotted us. It charged at us so ferociously that it smacked into my aunt's chain link fence. It wasn't deterred, and swung around the fence to charge back at us. I'll admit. We were scared! We couldn't get back in the house fast enough. The stupid dog was so hyped up that it chased us right up to my aunt's front door growling the whole time.
That did it for Dan. He called to police.
The stupid beast was so enraged it wouldn't let us leave the house. Every time we opened the door it would bark ferociously and run to the driveway.
My grandmother suffers from advanced stages of Alzheimer's. In the past few months she has wandered the neighborhood a few scary times. It's hard enough to worry about all the things that could happen to her of her own accord, but now I fear that this uncontrolled dog might hurt her. She is not aware enough to keep herself safe. Last night while the dog was growling at us, she motioned to pet the animal.
Here's my gripe.
Where are the owner's while this nasty dog was terrorizing the neighborhood?
Apparently this wasn't the first incident.
Furthermore, why do people insist on keeping pit bulls as pets?
They are vicious animals bread for violence.
I know, I know. They can be good family dogs.
I somewhat agree. They can be good family dogs.
However, they are notoriously territorial and violent. Especially nursing females.
So again...
I hate pit bulls.
They should not be kept as pets.
Period.
Off my soapbox now.
